Ruthenium Dithionate, RuS2O6

By the continued passage of sulphur dioxide through the sulphate solution the blue solution mentioned above becomes colourless, and Ruthenium Dithionate, RuS2O6, is produced in solution. It is precipitated from the solution as a yellowish white powder by addition of alcohol. On dissolving in water and concentrating, the salt is obtained as a yellow crystalline mass of radiating fibres. It is readily soluble in water and in acids. When warmed with permanganate solution ruthenium sulphate is produced.
